3/30/09 A reader of "The Big Rich," a new book by Bryan Burrough about Texas oilmen, wants to know where John Henry Kirby's "mansion" called "Dixie Pines" was located. A 1921 directory in the Adirondack Collection of the Saranac Lake Free Library locates it on Upper Saranac Lake. Can anyone identify this camp?

3/17/09 A descendent of John Carrier (born in SL 1905) has shared some family albums with HSL (photos have been posted on the Wiki). He would like any information on the Trombley & Carrier mill, the Carrier family, or information on his Grandmother's family. Her name was Mary Ellen Colon (Carrier) born in Swanton, VT. The family lived on Franklin Avenue.

A fine obituary on John Carrier's father, Jack Carrier, has been added (thanks to the SL Library's Adirondack Room), and a smattering of information on the on the mill (thanks to the
NNYLN online newspaper archive. We still need more on the mill, and we still have little information on Mary Ellen Carrier.

3/17/09 A person is seeking information about his uncle, Ewald Wilcott, who lived in Saranac Lake in the late 1940s - early 50s. He ran a newspaper distribution center. He is hoping to find his uncle's old house when he comes to town. Does anyone remember Ewald and where he used to live?

2009-03-26 12:20:49 Ewald Wilcott lived on Neil Street, maybe the first or second house on the left after turning off William Street. He had a daughter, Carol Ann Wilcott, who graduated from SLHS in 1953. Emily Fogarty —efogarty

And the Adirondack Room of the Saranac Lake Free Library has telephone directories that could be used for finding particular residences. For Franklin County residences (which this one is) they also have a list which allows one to get from the old street address to the new, post 911-system address. Mwanner

See Adirondack Boat Building Association for what we have found out so far. Please post what you know in the comments box at the bottom of this page, or feel free to email Mark at <dancingoatfarm AT yahoo DOT com>

3/9/09 A family member of the actor Mortimer J. Naughton — stage name Jack Norton — is seeking information about his stay here. According to on-line biographies, he specialized in a "comic drunk" routine and appeared in 81 films! He died October 15, 1958, in Saranac Lake. Since he was an actor, he may have stayed at Will Rogers. Does anyone remember him? Any information is welcome.

3/9/09 A researcher is seeking information about an actress, Jeanne Eagels, who performed in Saranac Lake on December 3, 1912, in a play called "The Angelus" with actor, Harrington Reynolds. The researcher would like to know the name of the theater, and any other information. He especially hopes someone may have a copy of the playbill. Apparently location shooting was done in the Saranac Lake area in September/October 1916 for her film, "The World and the Woman. Any information about that as well would also be much appreciated.
